As spring break draws to a close in Lexington, kids and parents alike are getting a bit restless. Many hold out hope schools will reopen in May. And as dogwoods prepare to blossom in front yards, we have to remind ourselves we live in a different world now, one without neighborly porch visits and children playing ball in the street. On our daily photography drive through the city, Kurt and I are offered a blessing and a plastic bag of lemon-flavored KitKats. We had to turn down the KitKats.

Lexington in the Time of COVID-19 is an artwork about people practicing social distancing at a time of a deadly virus. And also offering kindness.

Kurt Gohde and Kremena Todorova capture photographs at the periphery of American culture, where drag queens, discarded couches, and abandoned motel signs exist.
