During his 5 PM address to the Commonwealth of Kentucky this evening, Governor Beshear announced that the deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the state have surpassed 100. He ordered flags at all state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff beginning tomorrow morning and to remain that way “until we get through this.” Governor Beshear also emphasized that Kentucky continues to see disproportionate deaths in the black community. “We should’ve been doing better in our health care system and in our world, and I hope coming out of this we commit to doing better,” he said. The desire to create a new world—a better and more equitable one than the “normal” world we left behind in March—continued to reverberate in news articles, on social media, and in conversations shared from 6 feet away.
