Marilyn

Marilyn Dishman was the first African American Commissioner for Fayette County. She became a member of the Board of Elections in June 2016 and is a life member of Blacks in Kentucky Government.

Marilyn’s family helped desegregate Scott County Schools in 1956. She was responsible for getting $285,000 from the city of Lexington to fence in The African Cemetery No. 2. She organized and sponsored the first celebration of Juneteenth in Lexington.

Marilyn wrote, produced, and directed Black History Celebrations for Winburn Junior High School, which were used by Fayette County Public Schools for numerous years. She is a published poet.
